How to turn your photos into a comic
A comic starring you, a friend or your cat makes a great gift — and a fun way to tell a story. AI can already draw a person from a photo as a manga character or a superhero. How much the hero looks like the real person depends mostly on the photo you give it.
Which photos work
- Front-facing and close. The face fills a good part of the frame and looks at the camera. Profiles and group shots work worse.
- Even light. Daylight from a window beats flash and harsh shadows.
- Nothing in the way. Sunglasses, masks and a hand near the face make features hard to read.
- One face per photo. With several people in the shot, AI may blend their features.
- A recent photo. If you want the hero to look like you today, skip the ten-year-old picture.
Pets work too: a close-up of the face in good light, so the coat color is clear.
Why the hero stops looking like you
The further a style is from a photo, the more AI has to invent. Chibi heroes have huge heads and tiny bodies; manga has big eyes — the likeness lives in the hairstyle, hair color, glasses and clothes rather than exact features. If recognizability matters most, pick styles closer to realism: classic comic, superhero, webtoon, noir.
Text helps too: mention the hero’s clothes and details in the story (“Max in a red jacket with a backpack”) and they stay the same on every page.
Story ideas starring you
- Birthday. Friends plan a surprise, everything goes wrong, and the party ends up even better.
- Superhero at work. An ordinary office day that suddenly turns into saving the world.
- A trip. Your last vacation — with a chase, a lost suitcase and a happy ending.
- A love story. How you met, as a manhwa or in cozy anime.
- Pet hero. A cat who guards the apartment from aliens at night.

How to do it in the app
In Temfy: AI Comic & Manga Maker for iPhone:
- Tap Add New Character, pick a photo and name the hero. One comic can have up to four heroes with photos.
- Describe the story, mentioning the heroes by name, or pick a ready-made idea.
- Choose a style and the number of pages (one to six) and tap Create Comic.
- If a hero doesn’t look right on some page, fix it in words — for example, “Max has short hair and glasses”.
Save the comic as a PDF or share it as images and a Stories video. To draw your heroes, the photos and the story text are sent to an image generation service (Google Gemini); the app asks for your consent before the first use — see the privacy policy. The first page is free; after that, 15 credits a page.
In short
- Photos: front-facing, close, even light, one face per shot.
- For recognizability, realistic styles; in chibi and manga the likeness is in hair and clothes.
- Put the hero’s details in the story text too.
- Fix a weak page with words instead of redoing the whole comic.
